Space discoveries in 2020 have come a very far way but have much to go. With recent discoveries from Nasa to Spacex, many different companies have been pushing for new space discoveries in 2020. Welcome to part 2!
What are the latest discoveries about our universe?
Astronomers spotted the brightest light in the universe, found new planets circling distant stars, and detected a collision between a black hole and a neutron star that warped the fabric of space-time. In our own solar system, scientists also discovered new moons and evidence of violent collisions from the past.
What have astronauts discovered in space?
LRO definitively discovered water on the moon in 2009, with tons of it at the moon’s North Pole. Astronomers recently detected a strange radio burst. Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are essentially powerful bursts of radio waves from deep space. In July 2018, a strange FRB was detected.
What is inside a black hole?
According to theory, within a black hole there’s something called a singularity. A singularity is what all the matter in a black hole gets crushed into. Others say that the singularity is actually a whole surface inside the event horizon.
Who discovered the moon?
Earth’s only natural satellite is simply called “the Moon” because people didn’t know other moons existed until Galileo Galilei discovered four moons orbiting Jupiter in 1610.
Has anyone been lost in space?
Cosmonauts Georgi Dobrovolski (left), Vladislav Volkov (middle), and Viktor Patsayev (right), the only three people to die in space, are featured on three USSR stamps. On June 29, the cosmonauts loaded back into the Soyuz 11 spacecraft and began their descent to Earth. And that’s when tragedy struck.
Are there humans living in space?
The space station has made it possible for people to have an ongoing presence in space. Human beings have been living in space every day since the first crew arrived. The space station’s laboratories allow crew members to do research that could not be done anywhere else.
What is the longest time someone has lived in space?
The world record for the single longest mission by any space explorer, man or woman, is held by cosmonaut Valery Polyakov, who spent 438 consecutive days on board Russia’s former space station Mir from January 1994 to March 1995.
Did NASA invent artificial limbs?
One of their research tools is a computer program originally developed by NASA to distinguish among Earth surface features in Landsat image processing. The making of artificial limbs is known in the medical world as prosthetics. This field also includes orthopedic aids such as knee and neck braces.
Did NASA make duct tape?
In a story released today from NASA documenting the events of the Apollo 17 in 1972, duct tape became the saviour of astronauts Gene Cernan and Jack Schmitt as they sped around on the lunar surface in their moonbuggy.
Did NASA invent LED lights?
According to Dr. Ray Wheeler, lead for advanced life support activities in the Engineering Directorate, using LED lights to grow plants was an idea that originated with NASA as far back as the late 1980s.
